Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing the right material: Steel or Aluminum?
When buying a used tipper trailer, the material of the body dictates the type of work you can do. In our specifications, we clearly state the construction material of the box:
- Steel Tippers (e.g., Hardox / Domex): Built for extreme durability and wear resistance. These heavy-duty trailers are required for transporting abrasive materials like large rocks, demolition rubble, and heavy scrap metal. They are heavier, but can withstand severe impacts.
- Aluminum Tippers: Designed to minimize the empty weight of the trailer, maximizing your legal payload. These are strictly used for softer, less abrasive bulk goods such as sand, gravel, grain, and agricultural products.
Volume capacity and body shape
Tipper semi-trailers come in different volumes depending on the density of the cargo:
- Low volume (25m³ - 35m³): Used for heavy, dense materials like sand, wet soil, and asphalt. These often feature a half-pipe (U-shape) design, which prevents material from sticking in the corners and allows for a smooth discharge.
- High volume (40m³ - 60m³+): Box-shaped tippers used for lighter bulk goods that require a lot of space, such as grain, coal, or woodchips.
Axles, hydraulics, and options
The chassis underneath the tipper is just as important as the box itself. Pay attention to the following specifications in our vehicle listings:
- Axles and Brakes: For highway transport, SAF axles with disc brakes are the standard. If the trailer is used heavily off-road or destined for export to Africa or the Middle East, BPW axles with drum brakes are highly preferred due to their closed design and durability.
- Lift Axle: Many 3-axle tippers have a pneumatic lift axle. This reduces tire wear and saves fuel when driving empty.
- Roll Cover (Tarpaulin): Most of our trailers are equipped with a manual or electric roll cover to secure the load and prevent material from blowing away during transit.
Popular tipper brands in our stock
We stock the most reliable European trailer builders to ensure high uptime and a strong residual value:
- Schmitz Cargobull: Famous for their steel half-pipe tippers (S.KI series), heavily used in the road construction and earthmoving sectors.
- Stas: A premium Belgian manufacturer, highly regarded for their robust and lightweight aluminum bulk and recycling trailers.
- Kempf and Benalu: Renowned builders of both high-volume agricultural tippers and heavy-duty construction trailers.
